What is a barograph?

January 08, 2013 1 Comment

Aneroid barographs are used to measure and record the history of atmospheric pressure on a paper chart, wrapped around a clock-driven drum. This is helpful if you are looking to chart weather patterns.

The accuracy of modern equipment

Even in these modern times of satellites and Internet, the atmospheric pressure measured with a personal barometer remains the most important indication of weather changes at your location. To evaluate present weather or to forecast coming weather, we need accurate barometric pressure. Most common barometers on the market are not accurate enough to serve this purpose. They are more decorative than functional.  With our Fischer barographs you know you are buying quality.

What can barographs be used for?

Barographs can be used in various different industries and are very help for the nautical industries:

  • On a fully crewed vessel the logbook serves as a detailed record of pressure changes.
  • Used by navies and weather services
  • Used on yachts and ships
  • On overnight anchorages, a printed barograph trace is a convenient way to learn how the pressure changed during the night when there was no watch to record it

What types of barographs can you buy?

When you are dealing with the weather you want to make sure you have really accurate data to make decisions around. We recommend these Fischer metal mechanisms because they are highly accurate, built to last.
